It was a rather chilly day in December. I was returning home from coaching center. As I took the turn near my home, I stopped. Two men, not much older than me, were harassing a teenage girl.

I knew her quite well. She lived next door to us, and her parents were good people. My protest was almost instinctive, which the men did not take too kindly. The intervention of some of my buddies chatting nearby forced them to sprint off, but not before mouthing a warning to me. I didn’t care much about the incident. After all, it was my locality, who would dare lay a finger on me there?

I was wrong…

Three days later, I was again returning home from tuition. Two street lights in my locality had bid the Earth adieu a couple days back, so the area was pretty dark. That’s where they were hiding.

I never saw them coming from behind, but as if by instinct, I had turned my head to watch over my shoulders just as one of them swung the iron rod. It just grazed the base of my left ear, but the resulting concussion was enough to cause a total blackout for a couple seconds. If they had cotinued the swings, I don’t know what would have happened. But they didn’t. May be they were assessing the damage, or may be their tipsiness (I smelled alcohol when I was taking care of them a little while later) prevented them from following up immediately.

My left hand instinctively reached for the spot where the rod had hit me. I felt something sticky. The blow had drawn blood.

My vision was clearing. I felt blood rushing to my head. My heart was probably working to full capacity just to keep myself from passing out.

I thought about Sumi. Suddenly, I realized how desperately I wanted to see her again. But, I knew that those two men were not planning to let me get away. I would have to confront them first…

I felt a rage welling up inside me. My muscles tightened as I turned to face my adversaries.

The rest was easy…

In this nightmare, I would see myself standing inside room with no windows. There is just one door, and it is locked from outside. I walk around the room for a while, eventually stepping on a circle drawn on the floor with white chalk. As soon as I step on the circle, I am unable to move any more. It is like something has paralyzed me.

That’s when he enters. A man with a black mask covering his entire face and an iron rod in his hand. He bolts the door from the inside.

I am still unable to move as the man walks up behind me and hits the back of my head with a resounding whack!

It’s strange, but I feel no pain from the hit. The world simply goes dark in front of my eyes and I am suddenly able to move again. I stumble around the room as the man keeps hitting me all over.

Suddenly I feel cold water being splashed on my face. The hits stop immediately.

My vision clears and I find myself standing inside the room, with the door wide open. The man is nowhere to be found, and all injuries on my body are gone.

This is where I would wake up.

Some say that dreams are predictions of the future. I can’t say that I fully believe them, but something similar to this nightmare happened to me soon after I saw this one for the last time.

Was that coincidence, or divine warning?

I am standing on top of a cliff. The sun is setting and the sky has been lit up with varying shades of amber, orange and red. Interestingly, the cliff is a very tall one with a really narrow top; I can barely place my feet on the top.

As I watch the sky, I notice a pool of darkness forming in the sky, right above my head. It slowly starts spreading across the entire sky. I start feeling afraid. The pool spreads almost to the horizon, sinking the whole area surrounding me in near palpable darkness. I can barely see a ray of light on the horizon.

Suddenly, there is a burst of light on the edge of the almost impenetrable shroud of darkness. The sky gets flooded with a brilliant golden light; the darkness seems to melt in front of it.

This is where I would wake up.

I am standing in front of a run down, dark house. Something attracts me toward the house; I feel compelled to enter it. As I enter, the heavy wooden doors close behind me with a resounding thud that echoes throughout the house. I try to open those, but they are stuck good. I am trapped in the house, all alone.

I am not at all afraid at first, due to some unknown reason (since when did dreams start following logic, anyway ?). I search through the entire house, both the ground floor and the first floor. Interestingly, none of the floors have any windows anywhere, but there is a diffused light throughout the house. This allows me to see everything. I search throughout the house but find absolutely nothing. The house is completely empty, except one single broken chair in one corner of a room.

This is where I start getting afraid. An amorphous horror takes over my mind, and I feel a chill in the air. I start shivering, maybe with cold or fear, I can’t really tell.

This is when I used to wake up and feel my nightsuit soaked through with sweat. I have never been to any house that even vaguely resembles the house in the dream. I did not get to watch any television until I was around 12 years age, so watching some B-grade horror series or movie is out of the question.

The nature of this dream has eluded me till date. If you feel you can try to explain the cause of this dream to me, please leave your comments.

I am almost a regular dreamer; not many of my nights go by without one or two dreams. It is probably my luck that I can remember most of my dreams in vivid details even after I wake up. I used to note these down in my personal diary, until one day, a friend convinced me that I should put these up in a blog.
